If you have acne scars, large pores, or early skin laxity, MNRF is probably the most-effective single treatment in modern dermatology — and one of the safest for Indian skin. This page explains how it works, why we prefer it over fractional CO2 laser for darker skin tones, and what 4 to 6 sessions actually achieve.
What MNRF actually does
MNRF (Microneedling with Radiofrequency) is two technologies stacked:
- Microneedling — tiny insulated gold-tipped needles penetrate the skin at a controlled depth (0.5 to 3.5mm). The skin perceives this as injury and triggers collagen-rebuilding pathways.
- Radiofrequency — delivered through the needle tips at depth, RF energy heats the dermis to 65 to 70°C, dramatically amplifying the collagen response. The insulated needles ensure surface skin is unaffected.
The result: significantly more collagen remodelling than microneedling alone, without surface damage that causes pigmentation in darker skin.
What MNRF treats best
- Acne scars — particularly boxcar and rolling scars (the most common types in our patient population)
- Large pores — visible reduction after 2 to 3 sessions
- Fine lines, mild wrinkles — around eyes, lips, forehead
- Skin laxity — early jowls, jaw definition, neck
- Skin texture — uneven surface, "leathery" sun-damaged skin
- Stretch marks — particularly newer red/pink marks (slower with older silvery ones)
What an MNRF session looks like
Skin assessment + photos 10 min
We document baseline scars/texture/laxity with high-magnification photos for before/after tracking. We also discuss treatment depth (3.5mm for deep acne scars, 1.5 to 2mm for fine lines).
Topical numbing 30 min
EMLA or BLT cream applied generously and covered with cling film. The full numbing window is necessary — MNRF without numbing is genuinely uncomfortable.
MNRF passes 20-30 min
2 to 4 passes across the treatment area at varying depths. We start deep (3.5mm) for scarred zones, taper to shallow (1.5mm) for thinner skin around eyes. Heat and pressure sensation; tolerable with proper numbing.
Optional PRP layering 15 min
For acne scar patients, we frequently apply PRP immediately after MNRF — the open micro-channels absorb the growth factors directly. Cuts downtime from 5 days to 3, and significantly improves outcomes.
Aftercare and dressing 5 min
Soothing serum, hyaluronic acid, broad-spectrum sunblock. Written aftercare card and follow-up scheduling.
